Tennis was my first writing teacher.

She taught me to start early and stay later.
She taught me to master basics, then get creative.
She taught me to respect intuition.
She taught me to compete with myself.
She taught me to never let hustle overlook detail.
She taught me to honor talent by improving it.
She taught me to seek a mentor, study role models.
She taught me to let emotion lead my craft.
She taught me to focus. Think. Strategize.
She taught me to remember, it’s just a game.
She taught me to play with everything I have inside.
For twelve years, I learned from tennis.
Since, I've been privileged to develop skills under high
school English coaches, university instructors, improv
professors and educators at Zambezi, Proof Advertising
and most recently, Hill Holliday.
I'm always on the lookout for my next lesson.
